The Vision becomes a Community

How we began, and why we're growing

In 1979, four area churches recognized the need for a unique retirement community that offered an active, secure and rewarding independent lifestyle. The vision was realized when La Vida Llena opened its doors in 1983.

Working together, St. John’s Episcopal Cathedral, First Presbyterian, First United Methodist and St. Paul’s Lutheran created an exciting new retirement opportunity that enables residents to live a full and active life.

Through their community spirit and a commitment to the common good, a not-for-profit corporation was founded to guide the development of a non-denominational community. The name, La Vida Llena The Full Life reflects what we strive to provide every day.

Over the years, La Vida Llena has more than doubled in size, and expanded to be a full Life Plan community with assisted living and nursing home care options. We have won awards for our facilities and services, staying true to our original vision.

1983

The Vision Begins

La Vida Llena opens its doors with 187 residences, and 44 skilled nursing units. By creating a new kind of retirement community, the four churches involved provide a much-needed opportunity for active retirees, who want the convenience of a retirement community while maintaining their independence.

1986

The First Expansion

La Vida Llena became what was then known as a LifeCare community (now Life Plan), adding 45 assisted living units, and Mi Casa, a 16 unit memory support clinic.

1988

The Casitas

With the addition of 8 Casitas (homes), La Vida Llena now offers a full range of independent living arrangements. These comfortable homes offer the same benefits as our previous units, but with the benefit of townhome living.

1994

Alta Vista Expansion

Building on the success of the Casitas, La Vida Llena added 14 homes to meet the increased need. We also opened a new building, Alta Vista, with 27 residential unit.

2012

Nueva Vista

For the 2nd year in a row, La Vida Llena received a 5 star rating from the Department of Health.

After years of planning, our award-winning Nueva Vista building opens its doors, providing 58 high-end senior apartments. To ensure that we can provide the necessary Life Plan services, we converted 20 residential units at La Vida Llena into assisted living, skilled nursing, and memory support apartments.

2014

Renovation on Main Campus

For the 4th year in a row, La Vida Llena received a 5 star rating from the Department of Health.

We completed the renovation project, transforming a 30 year old community and “made it new again”. Keeping the traditions that make us unique and adding innovations making us progressive. The renovation includes new dining options, a larger chapel, and improved services for our residents.

The community completed its largest remodel to date, which is based on resident feedback. New senior living apartments, common area renovations and private Supportive Care apartments ensure our residents can continue to enjoy life to the fullest.
